Your work. Your records.
Forest and Conservation Workers: Workplace Records
Conservation work can involve a crew discussion, tree-counting work and assistance to a survey crew on different parts of a day. A workplace concern may refer to only one of those assignments. Build a timeline that identifies the task, the instruction you received and the work you personally observed, without treating a crew total or a later project finding as a complete account of your own work.

A record map for your role
What to organize first
Crew instruction
Record the task discussed and when a changed instruction reached you.
Count ownership
Identify your own tally separately from a crew total or later reported figure.
Support role
Describe the survey assistance you performed without taking credit for another person’s measurement.
Source limits
Label remembered details and missing records instead of creating replacement field entries.
Start with the work you actually do
Under supervision, perform manual labor necessary to develop, maintain, or protect areas such as forests, forested areas, woodlands, wetlands, and rangelands through such activities as raising and transporting seedlings; combating insects, pests, and diseases harmful to plant life; and building structures to control water, erosion, and leaching of soil. Includes forester aides, seedling pullers, tree planters, and gatherers of nontimber forestry products such as pine straw.
O*NET classifies this occupation as Forest and Conservation Workers (45-4011.00). Its description covers a typical occupation, not every workplace or individual job. It does not establish employee status, overtime eligibility or employer misconduct.

Keep the crew discussion and assignment together
Note the date, approximate time and work need discussed with the crew. Identify the role of the person giving instructions and any change to your assignment. If you asked about the work or raised a concern, describe the question and the response you actually received. Avoid assigning a motive to a later employment action solely because it followed the discussion.
Distinguish your tally from a combined count
If performance feedback refers to trees counted or examined, identify whether the number was your own tally, a shared figure or a number supplied later. Note the period it covered and any discrepancy you reported. Keep sensitive site and project information in authorized records; your personal account can identify the record location without copying protected maps or ecological data. Do not recreate missing counts from memory as original field entries.
Describe the survey-support handoff
When your role was to clear sight lines, hold a measuring tool or set stakes, explain which support task you were assigned and when another worker took over. Separate your assistance from a measurement or interpretation made by the survey crew. Keep your own permitted schedule, time statement and employment correspondence for a shift dispute. This guide does not give instructions for surveying, cutting, fire response or equipment operation.
Use the source for context only
The selected O*NET 31.0 tasks describe crew discussions, tree tallies and assistance to forest survey crews. They are dated August 2023. They provide context for organizing a workplace account, not current project procedures, a productivity benchmark or proof of an individual responsibility. Employer type and the circumstances of the concern remain separate questions when someone reviews the account.
Choose your next step
Review the workplace retaliation guide, unpaid wages guide, or discrimination guide if those concerns fit your experience. A job title alone does not establish a claim.
