Insurance Underwriter Workplace Records

Insurance underwriters evaluate applications against requirements and authority limits that may change by product. An employment concern about an acceptance, decline or turnaround target should identify the instruction in effect. Separate your risk recommendation from a final decision or exception approved by another person.

  2. Review timeline

Record missing inputs and escalation dates relevant to the specific turnaround expectation in your evaluation.

  3. Guideline history

Identify the instruction version and later changes while leaving confidential criteria and applicant data protected.

May 2025 wage estimates by state

Compare your pay records with published BLS estimates for Insurance Underwriters (SOC 13-2053). These describe an occupation across employers. They are not a required pay rate, an overtime calculation, or evidence of discrimination or unpaid wages.

Select your work state to see its published pay range. No personal pay information is requested or sent.

The 25th and 75th percentiles mark the middle half of the estimated wage distribution; the median is its midpoint. Actual pay can differ with experience, employer, location and duties. Hourly and annual figures are shown as published, without converting one into the other.

“Not published” preserves unavailable or suppressed source cells. “Above reporting limit” preserves a top-coded source value without inventing a number. A missing state estimate does not establish service eligibility. The data describe wage and salary employment; they do not measure self-employment income.

Identify authority and guideline versions

Describe the product category, guideline version and limits on your decision-making role. Note when you requested additional information or an exception. If a later review uses revised criteria, record when those criteria became available without assuming they governed the earlier assignment.

Put turnaround measures in sequence

Record receipt, missing-information requests, review and escalation in general terms. Distinguish time awaiting applicant or specialist input from work assigned to you. Keep your own performance review and response together, without downloading other underwriters’ files to compare their handling of similar applications.

Protect applicant and risk material

Do not retain medical information, property valuations, financial records, internal pricing models or restricted underwriting files in personal storage. Identify supporting records by category and custodian. Your own employment terms and permitted feedback can establish context without exposing the contents of an application.

Choose your next step

Review the workplace retaliation guide, unpaid wages guide, or discrimination guide if those concerns fit your experience. A job title alone does not establish a claim.
