What to organize first

  1. Assignment categories

Distinguish room turnover, occupied-room service, public areas and supply duties in the relevant shift.

  2. Supply interruption

Record the missing item or equipment problem, the person notified and the direction you received.

  3. Shift record

Place your own time entry beside your account of preparation and closing duties, keeping any correction response.

Start with the work you actually do

Perform any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain private households or commercial establishments, such as hotels and hospitals, in a clean and orderly manner. Duties may include making beds, replenishing linens, cleaning rooms and halls, and vacuuming.

“Not published” preserves unavailable or suppressed source cells. “Above reporting limit” preserves a top-coded source value without inventing a number. A missing state estimate does not establish service eligibility. The data describe wage and salary employment; they do not measure self-employment income.

Describe the assignment mix

List the general area, number of assignments if known and whether rooms required routine service or turnover. Note reassigned rooms, inaccessible spaces and interruptions that changed your work. Avoid presenting all rooms as equivalent. Identify who set the assignment and whether you requested help, without collecting another cleaner's private employment records.

Include supplies and end-of-shift duties

Record cart preparation, linen collection, restocking and required cleanup relevant to the disputed period. Note missing equipment or supplies and when you reported the problem. Compare the sequence to your own time entry and retain any permitted correction request. Mark remembered durations as estimates rather than calculating precise times from incomplete notes.

Keep occupancy information confidential

Do not save room occupancy lists, access credentials, guest photographs or medical information in a personal file. Use an employer's general area designation where possible and describe the record that could confirm the assignment. Retain your own schedule, pay records and employment messages only where you are permitted to keep them.

Choose your next step

Review the workplace retaliation guide, unpaid wages guide, or discrimination guide if those concerns fit your experience. A job title alone does not establish a claim.
