Roofer Workplace Records Guide

Roofing work may move between inspection, surface preparation, installation and sealing as conditions change. An employment account should identify the roof area and work stage assigned to you rather than treating every crew member as responsible for the entire job.

May 2025 wage estimates by state

Compare your pay records with published BLS estimates for Roofers (SOC 47-2181). These describe an occupation across employers. They are not a required pay rate, an overtime calculation, or evidence of discrimination or unpaid wages.

Select your work state to see its published pay range. No personal pay information is requested or sent.

The 25th and 75th percentiles mark the middle half of the estimated wage distribution; the median is its midpoint. Actual pay can differ with experience, employer, location and duties. Hourly and annual figures are shown as published, without converting one into the other.

“Not published” preserves unavailable or suppressed source cells. “Above reporting limit” preserves a top-coded source value without inventing a number. A missing state estimate does not establish service eligibility. The data describe wage and salary employment; they do not measure self-employment income.

Describe the assigned repair

Record the general roof type, repair stage and instruction received at the start. Note whether a later inspection changed the proposed work. Keep the original plan and the revised assignment separate, including who authorized each change.

Record interruptions and reassignment

Describe weather or material delays you actually observed and when the crew was directed to stop, wait or change tasks. Include preparation and cleanup in the shift sequence. Do not infer that time away from installation was necessarily time away from assigned work.

Limit customer and site information

Retain your own schedule and permitted employment messages. Avoid taking customer addresses, interior images or confidential estimates. If inspection photos or work orders are relevant, identify when they were created and where the employer maintains them.

Choose your next step

Review the workplace retaliation guide, unpaid wages guide, or discrimination guide if those concerns fit your experience. A job title alone does not establish a claim.
